Professional turf fertilizer: green spaces, golf courses, sports pitches
Since 1885, Germiflor has been making soil amendments and organo-mineral fertilizers in Aussillon, in the Tarn, for sports pitches, golf courses and public green spaces. Our programme: an organic amendment applied with aeration or reseeding, then a slow-release organo-mineral fertilizer in split applications from spring to autumn. Pesticides have been banned on sports pitches and golf courses in France since 1 January 2025, with some exceptions. Vigorous turf on a living soil is now the first line of defence.

Germiflor know-how
A manufacturer working alongside grounds managers
Our fertilizers are made in our Aussillon plant from our own compost, Mazor®, and those we recommend for turf contain no castor cake. We supply local authorities and clubs through our distributors or direct, in bags, big bags or in bulk.

Mazor® at the heart of our formulas
Our amendments and organo-mineral fertilizers are built on Mazor®, the result of seven months of controlled composting with the patented Cronops® process. Plant oilseed cakes, grape and olive pulp, coffee grounds and, depending on the formula, sterilized animal materials are transformed: carbon is stabilized, the C/N ratio falls, pathogens are eliminated and the microflora develops. That is what sets a composted material apart from the same material in its raw state.

Turf fertilization: our three-step programme
An organic amendment in autumn with aeration, fertilizer at spring regrowth, then split applications through the season: three steps, adapted to how the turf is used.
- 01Soil supportSeptember to OctoberAeration and reseeding
Organic amendment applied alongside aeration, sand topdressing or overseeding. Autumn is the best season to rebuild soil and roots.
- 02NutritionMarch to AprilSpring regrowth
Slow-release organo-mineral fertilizer as the soil warms up, for steady regrowth without excessive mowing.
- 03AdjustmentsMay to SeptemberDepending on use and weather
Split applications matched to the intensity of play or footfall. In midsummer, do not push growth on heat-stressed turf.
After summer, an autumn application helps the turf rebuild its reserves and roots before winter.
The Germis’ tip
In public spaces, check what the fertilizer contains. Castor cake, found in some organic fertilizers, is toxic to dogs and to any animals that eat it: it has to be worked into the soil immediately, which cannot be done on turf. The fertilizers we recommend for turf contain none.

Living soil for better turf
Turf on sports grounds and in public spaces suffers from foot traffic, repeated mowing and compaction from machinery. The soil seals, water runs off, roots stay near the surface and the turf thins out with the first hot spell. Fertilizer alone will not solve these problems: first you need a soil that breathes.
An organic amendment applied at aeration or reseeding improves soil structure, water retention and biological activity. A slow-release organo-mineral fertilizer then feeds the turf steadily, without flushes of growth or leaching losses.
That is why our programme always follows the same order: soil support, nutrition, adjustments.

Golf courses: greens, fairways and tees
The French ministerial order of 15 January 2021 extends the Labbé law. Since 1 January 2025, it has banned pesticides on golf courses, including tees, greens and fairways, and on full-size sports pitches and grass tennis courts. One exception remains: when no alternative can achieve the quality required for official competitions.
With no chemical safety net, turf management relies on agronomy: aeration, sand topdressing, overseeding and regular feeding to keep the sward dense. On fairways and tees, an organic amendment keeps the soil in good condition; on sandy greens, nutrients are applied little and often.

Sports pitches and local authorities
On football and rugby pitches, wear is concentrated in the penalty areas and the centre of the pitch. Overseeding worn areas, followed by an organic amendment and an organo-mineral fertilizer, helps them recover faster.
Since the Labbé law, French local authorities have managed their parks and green spaces without pesticides. Our soil amendments and our organic and organo-mineral fertilizers, most of them approved for organic farming, fit this approach, on lawns and flower beds alike.
More than 20 years of working together, and still a close relationship and faultless service. GERMIFLOR constantly challenges itself, and that is how it keeps offering high-quality products.

Professional turf fertilizer: your questions
Our technical team’s answers to the questions greenkeepers, grounds managers and local authorities ask us.
What fertilizer should I use on professional turf?
A slow-release organo-mineral fertilizer, applied in split doses from spring to autumn, on a soil maintained with an organic amendment. It feeds the turf steadily, without flushes of growth.
When should I fertilize turf?
At spring regrowth, in March or April, then in split applications through the season, depending on use. Autumn, with aeration and reseeding, is the time for the organic amendment.
Which turf fertilizer should I use in autumn?
An organic amendment applied with aeration or overseeding, and a moderate application of organo-mineral fertilizer to help the turf rebuild its reserves and roots before winter.
Is organic fertilizer suitable for sports pitches?
Yes, in organo-mineral form: the mineral fraction acts quickly and the organic fraction sustains soil life. Combined with aeration and sand topdressing, it limits compaction and improves the turf’s wear tolerance.
Are pesticides banned on sports pitches in France?
Yes. Since 1 January 2025, they have been banned on full-size sports pitches, grass tennis courts and golf courses (ministerial order of 15 January 2021), except where no alternative can achieve the quality required for official competitions.
Do your turf fertilizers contain castor cake?
No. The fertilizers we recommend for turf and green spaces contain no castor cake, which is toxic to animals and unsuitable for surface application.
Do I need a soil amendment before building a new pitch?
Yes. A plant-based compost rich in stable humus, such as Humiflor® Mazor® n°7 at 5 to 8 t/ha, prepares soil structure and soil life before sowing.
What fertilizer should I use on a golf course?
An organic amendment on fairways and tees, and organo-mineral fertilizer applied little and often, especially on sandy greens.
Does Germiflor supply local authorities?
Yes, through our distributors or direct, in bags, big bags or in bulk. From the south of France up to the Loire Valley, buying our fertilizers comes with storage hoppers and spreaders on loan.
